You will write a report (500 words) on your group’s
discussion.
In the report, you will:
A)
Propose how you
can contribute as a specialist to realize your group’s master plan, and
B)
Propose a title
of research paper related to the master plan.
Waste and Biomass as Future Energy Resources
For the biomass, we will use agriculture by product
as biomass that can be converted to bioethanol by using microorganism like
yeast. In bioethanol production, one importance part to apply that plan is
the technology to convert biomass to bioethanol. The problem with this
technology is in the pre-treatment of lignocellulose to remove the lignin and
get hemicellulose and cellulose (delignification process). Usually, this
process need to be done by acid or alkali treatment which can give
environmental problem. The alternative way is using microorganism like fungi
or bacteria to do that job. However, the microbe is need longtime to finish
that job and this is causing expensive cost production of bioethanol. So we
need to screen many microbe that can do delignification process quickly.
So, I am as biochemist, I can contribute to do
research in order to search microbe that have high capability to do
delignification. In addition, I also can contribute to increasing the technic
to convert biomass to bioethanol. Increasing the number of bioethanol that
produced by microbe etc. All of this kind of research can be done by
biochemistry and biotechnology research. In order to achieve our master plan,
I will purpose a research title: “Screening
endogenous microbe from vary agriculture by product with high delignification
capability”.
Lignocellulose in nature, usually destroy by endophyte
microbe. Each sources of lignocellulose will have different type of microbe
that responsible to destroy that lignocellulose. Each strain of microbe even
if fungi or bacteria, they have different capability to do delignification
lignocellulose. So, to get good microbe, we should search many entophyte
microbe from many kind of plants. Indonesia has mega biodiversity of plants,
it will give high opportunity also to get many kind of microbes. By evaluate
the capability each microbe in each lignocellulose sources, we can
investigate further on the microbe mechanism to do delignification and also
investigate enzyme that is responsible for this process. If all of this
information we can achieve, we can construct microbe that have very high
capability to do delignification with genetic engineering.
